House Six

Private Residence | Pound Ridge, NY | Unbuilt

House Six is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom, cross-laminated timber living space located in Bedford, New York. Since cross-laminated timber (CLT) are fabricated panels and craned into place on site, we were testing new possibilities about space and our relationship to typical domestic spaces. For example, unlike a typical stud wall that has a wall cavity that houses the plumbing and electrical infrastructure, the CLT panels require the fixtures associated with plumbing and electrical lines to be exposed. While the load-bearing walls might fix the rooms locations and proximity to one another, the reflected ceiling plan (the roof design) becomes another opportunity to investigate space and our conception of space.
